YO SOY

Teatro al Vacío (Mexico)

Dance theatre without spoken language

Sometimes you know quite clearly who you are. Yet time and again, you discover something new about yourself. In YO SOY (English: I AM), two people meet on stage. One is like this, the other like that. Without spoken language, they question each other and their very existence. They observe each other closely. They mimic one another, thereby altering what seems set in stone. With minimal resources and great precision, a dance theatre piece emerges for everyone aged 3 and above.
YO SOY explores the big question with lightness and humour: what defines me? It is a piece about our identity and invents new possibilities of being. It is an attempt to make visible a small world in which acceptance is of fundamental importance for the formation of identity.

The Argentine-Mexican collective Teatro al Vacío is dedicated to the ongoing research and creation of alternative artistic projects with and for children and young people. The collective focuses on stage projects that combine visual and physical forms of expression with a minimalist aesthetic.
Through their projects, Teatro al Vacío creates a space for dialogue and cross-generational participation.

Since 2007, Teatro al Vacío has been working specifically with and for young children. They coordinate and support creative and vocational training processes in the performing arts for children, offer workshops for children in hospitals, schools and at festivals, and advise on and support creative processes involving children and young people.
