Room for manoeuvre against right-wing extremism for democracy
Thursday, 05 June, 5 to 7 pm - tanzhaus nrw
A swing to the right and increasing militarisation: what tasks do recent political developments in Germany pose for theatres for young audiences?
In a series of impulses, the workshop organisers will present possible perspectives on current shifts in political power as well as examples of strategies for taking action in cities and rural areas.
At moderated tables, the following topics will then be discussed and translated into possible action plans:
- possibilities for taking action (Miriam Tscholl)
- dealing with and attitudes towards the principle of neutrality (Julia von Lindern)
- the shift to the right & stances (Mischa Aschmoneit)
- Visibility & Invisibility (Lila Uçar)
- transgressive behaviour in theatre practice (TBA).
With Miriam Tscholl, founder of Bürgerbühne at Staatsschauspiel Dresden and designated artistic director of Theater der jungen Welt Leipzig, and Julia von Lindern from the project “Politisiert euch!” at zakk as well as Lila Ucar and Mischa Aschmoneit from zakk Zentrum für Aktion, Kultur und Kommunikation Düsseldorf

Julia von Lindern
heads the project “politisiert euch!” at zakk, which explores new ways for NRW’s socio-cultural centres to work together on political issues. Now as ever, the core of socio-cultural work lies in taking up political or societal issues—or in directly determining and debating them.
Julia is also an activist herself who has worked with various initiatives and alliances in Düsseldorf and beyond for several years on issues such as the right to living space/ the housing shortage, poverty and anti-fascism.

Miriam Tscholl
studied cultural studies and aesthetic practice at the University of Hildesheim and has staged productions at various municipal and state theatres. From 2009 to 2019, she directed the BÜRGERBÜHNE division at Staatsschauspiel Dresden. There she initiated formats such as BÜRGERDINNER, MONTAGSCÀFE and the festival EUROPÄISCHE BÜRGERBÜHNENFESTIVAL. From 2020 to 2024, she developed sustainable, participatory cultural projects in 20 small and medium-sized communities in Saxony as part of X-DÖRFER. From the 2025/26 season, she will assume directorship of THEATER DER JUNGEN (TDJW).
