Südstadt, same but different / A postcolonial city rally

COMEDIA Theater and Cologne’s Südstadt district are closely linked. Thus, as part of the Westwind festival and in light of this year’s motto “Who Speaks for Whom”, we would like to take this opportunity to examine some of our neighbourhood’s places and stories from a postcolonial perspective.

For many people, the marks of Cologne’s colonial past are largely hidden. Yet Cologne does have colonial history and an inglorious past that has played a role in shaping our self-image and is still present today. Together with a class from Humboldt School, we would like to seek out these traces of history.

To this end, we have teamed up with the pupils to design a digital, interactive city rally. We invite you to increase your awareness by exploring the Südstadt district around COMEDIA Theater with a postcolonial eye.

All you need is your smartphone (with the app Biparcours), curiosity and the desire to take a walk through Südstadt in a group or alone!
