Symposia on the NRW productions
Talking about theatre with theatre professionals. Which formats and which questions are conducive to engaging in a respectful, critical dialogue? We want to discuss the fundamental questions of interest to all theatre makers. Questions that get down to the core of the matter: how educational is the production? To what extent does it offer messages of utopia or empowerment? Does it succeed in incorporating approaches from the aesthetics of access and trying out new or unfamiliar artistic language? What dramaturgical model is the production based on? How was the children’s book adapted and what was left out, what was achieved? What means do the actors use? Are clichés touched upon and deconstructed? Which rules are put in place, which are broken? How complex is the approach? How does the production engage with its young audience? Were authors involved in this production? What kind of impact did that have? Were digital means utilised on stage? And what is this production’s approach to humour, irony, wit and slapstick?
After devoting our time and focus to these questions in the run-up to the festival, we now invite you to take an active part in the dialogue. We want to try things out, explore and engage in new ideas: together with the artistic director of Junges Schauspiel, Stefan Fischer-Fels, and three young theatre makers from this year’s Next Generation Forum, our guest ensembles and interested theatre professionals from an array of artistic areas.
