LISTEN, SO WE CAN BELONG! – The Westwind CITIZEN’S DINNER WESTWIND invites you to the table!
On the menu is the question of how young people can be taken seriously as active shapers of urban society, and what prerequisites are necessary for genuine participation. To this end, a multi-course menu featuring perspectives from the fields of art, academia, and social work will be served: With Prof. Dr. Sebastian Kurtenbach, a social scientist at Münster University of Applied Sciences, questions concerning urban society and neighborhoods, migration, conflict research, and the changing nature of childhood and youth will be brought to the table. Mürüvet Potthoff from the Lorenz-Süd Community Center will speak about spaces of fear experienced by children in Berg Fidel (Münster) and the lived realities of young people within the district. Prof. Dr. Gesa Krebber from the Academy of Fine Arts Münster will open up artistic and power-critical perspectives on education, participation, and co-creation. Mürüvet Potthoff
She works in the field of open-access child education, focusing on children and their lived environments. Since 2021, she has served as the Coordinator of Child Education at the Lorenz-Süd Community Center in Berg Fidel. After completing her training as a state-recognized educator, she began studying Social Work in 2017. In 2024, she commenced advanced training to become a systemic counselor—a program she is completing this year. Her work centers on empowering children, promoting equal opportunities, and fostering their development.

Professor of Art Didactics and Aesthetic Education, Academy of Fine Arts Münster Research and Teaching.

The "Saloon Arts Education" lecture series invites teachers, art mediators, and other practitioners from school-based and cultural contexts to present their projects, methods, and experiences within a university setting. It offers insights into often-overlooked everyday practices and opens up a space for experimentation and discussion at the intersection of art, media, and education. Students gain practice-oriented insights into art mediation and art instruction. The aim is to foster closer ties between the university sector and both school-based and non-formal art pedagogy. This lecture series is a collaborative initiative between the Chair of Art Didactics and Aesthetic Education at the Academy of Fine Arts Münster and the Department of Art and Music at the University of Cologne.

Prof. Dr. Sebastian Kurtenbach
As a Professor of Political Science and Social Policy at Münster University of Applied Sciences and a Privatdozent at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Ruhr University Bochum, he conducts research and teaches on processes of social ordering in urban spaces, social inequality, migration, and the prevention of radicalization. His work combines theoretical perspectives with empirical research in cities and neighborhoods—both within Germany and in an international comparative context. Furthermore, he serves as Research Director at InWIS and as a Board Member of the Center for Interdisciplinary Regional Research (ZEFIR) at the Ruhr University Bochum, as well as of the Institute for Society and Digitalization (GUD) at Münster University of Applied Sciences.
